Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

Romans 8:5-6

Did you know your brain contains about 100 billion neurons? These cells shoot electricity through each other to communicate and produce your thoughts. The more you challenge your brain, the more it changes and adapts, making new connections.

Compare that to a computer. Our minds sift through and process more every day than can be stored on the hard drive of your personal computer. And how many computers do you know that can rewire themselves?

Did our amazing neural network happen by accident? The result of a random combination of chemicals?

Of course not. If you found a lap top sitting in your backyard, you wouldn’t think it created itself. Our magnificent brain, more complex than any computer, is evidence of God’s ultimate design. Whenever you hear someone say we were created by random processes over time, remember, the fact that you can ponder such a question is proof of its falsehood.

Dear Lord, thank you for creating our bodies to be a reflection of Your creative genius. And for giving us the brains to appreciate it. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

In 2013, there were 58 earthquakes around the world of a magnitude 6.5 or higher as measured on the moment magnitude scale (Mw). The moment magnitude scale is similar to the Richter scale, but measures the size of an earthquake in terms of energy released. In addition, thousands of small earthquakes occur around the world every year.

It’s tempting to think of our planetary home as stable, and yet God made it an ever-changing, dynamic place.

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

2 Timothy 1:7

Are there any Star Wars fans out there? I watched Star Wars so many times when I was a kid, I could repeat every line. Even in my pre-Christian days I was searching for something special in the universe. Something to give it all meaning. In Star Wars, the controlling power behind everything is called “the force.”

Millions of people connected with this movie because of the spiritual idea that there is more than we can see. We know instinctively, there is more out there. And let’s not forget the popularity of the X-files tag line—The truth is out there.

The truth is out there. The heavens declare the glory of God so that no one can deny His existence. When we call on the name of Jesus, we have access to the greatest power in the universe. May the force be with you.

Dear Lord, thank you for the power of Your name. You are the only good spiritual force in this universe. Help us to stay connected to You always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
